How to Change the Type of an Existing Splash Module

For info on Splash modules, click here.

To change the type of photo splash module used on a page, you will have to change some settings in the module itself. You may also have to resize the photos

Before you begin, you will need to know the name of the splash module in the Content Manager and the name of the gallery that appears in the module.

Finding the module and gallery name

Go to the Page Editor and click on the page that it appears on. Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Add & Arrange Modules boxes. Under the “top” position in the right-side box, there should be a module. This is the name of the module you will edit.

Note: If the module appears on the home page, you must go to the Publication Manager to find out the name of the module. Click on the main publication, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on “Edit Page Layout.” This will take you to the page setup and you can then scroll to the bottom and see the “Add & Arrange Modules” boxes to find out the name of the module.

If you are not sure which gallery is used in the module, you can check this in the Content Manager. Find the module and click on its name to open it. Then look at the dropdown menu next to “Select Gallery” – this is the gallery that is showing up in the module on your site.

Uploading new photos, Resizing photos

You may need to upload new photos for your splash gallery. If you are switching to or from the full-size picture with the number menu, you will have to resize your photos.

Photos in the full-size photo number menu splash module are 655 px wide. The height can vary (between 150-300 px is good), and you can leave the photos the same height that they were previously. Make sure all the photos are at the same height.

Photos in the other two photo splash modules should be 450 px wide. The height can vary, but all photos must be the same height.

Once you have resized your pictures (if needed) go to the Gallery Editor to upload the new versions. Click on the appropriate gallery and scroll down to where the photos are held. To change the photos out, simply click on the “Browse” button beneath each photo and find your new photo on your computer.

Then, check the boxes and click Update to switch the old photos for the new ones.

If you are going to use the full-size number menu splash module, you do not have to put anything into the “Item Caption,” “Description,” or “Photo Credit” fields. If you want the photo to link to an article or page, you should put that link in the “Link” field.

If you are going to use the second example above (right size text menu), you must fill in the “Item Caption” field with the title that you want to appear on the right side. You should also fill in the “Link” field if you want the photo to link to another page.

If you are going to use the third example above (right size text – caption, description, and credit), you should fill in all of the fields. You can opt to leave out the “Photo Credit” but the “Item Caption” and “Description” should be filled in. The “Link” field is optional.

After you have entered text into any or all of the boxes here, be sure to check the box on the left side and click “Update” – otherwise, the changes will not be saved.

Next, you must change the type of splash module in the module itself.

Go to the Content Manager and find the module. Click on its name to open it.

Here, you will have to change a few settings depending on which type you want to use.

First, you should change the selection in the dropdown next to “CSS File” –

If you want the full size number menu, change the CSS file to “sg-splash-bottom-menu.css” and change the “Image Width” to 655. Make sure the “Image height” is the same as the height of your photos. Check that the “Gallery height” is the same or larger than your image height. Leave all of the radio buttons at the bottom as “No” and change the menu type to “Number.”

Click “Save & Done” and your splash module should change. Wait a few minutes if you cannot see the change immediately or hold down the Shift key when you hit “Reload.”

If you want the splash module with the text menu on the right hand side, change the CSS file to “sg-splash-right-menu” and change the image width to 450. Make sure the “Image height” is the same as the height of your photos. Check that the “Gallery height” is the same or larger than your image height. Leave all of the radio buttons at the bottom as “No” and change the Menu type to “Text.”
